Parent Meeting from 6:30-7:00 pm

July 24, 2014

Dear Parents and Guardians of Fort Mill High School Students,

We Are…Fort Mill!!!  This simple statement encompasses the legacy of Fort Mill High School in our town, state, and nation.  We are proud of our tradition of excellence as a school, but understand the need to continue to improve and prepare students for college and career.  My name is Dee Christopher and it is my pleasure to serve as principal of Fort Mill High School.  I will begin my ninth year as principal of our school in the next few weeks.  I love my job and the role I play in the education of our students.  This year our staff will include 142 teachers, counselors, support staff, and administrators dedicated to every student and their future.

The purpose of this correspondence is to communicate important information about beginning school.  Registration remains open by completing information online at this link or our school website.  Schedules will be available on August 1 via Parent Portal.

Important Dates

August 1 – Noon - Schedules open in Parent Portal for those that completed registration

August 4 – Senior Conflict Resolution – 8:30AM-3:00PM

August 5-7 – 9-12 Conflict Resolution – 8:30AM-3:00PM

*Please Note – Conflict Resolution will be done by appointment only.  Please follow THIS LINK or go to our school website to access the calendar to sign up for a time with your counselor.

**The purpose of Conflict Resolution is to fill in an incomplete schedule, not to balance a schedule or drop/add different courses – ample opportunities were provided to change requests prior to June 7.  Schedule changes will not be made to balance a schedule, accommodate early dismissal for seniors, work schedules, extra-curricular activities, a teacher, a classmate, or lunch preference.

Attached to this letter is our Summer Reading List.  All students are encouraged to complete the summer reading assignment now regardless of where English is currently scheduled as classes could still change until the first day of school.  Bus information can be accessed here and at the FMSD websiteMeal information is found here and at the FMSD websiteParking passes may be picked up beginning August 4 for students that have purchased and completed Alive at 25.  Alive at 25 classes can be taken anywhere in the state, but we are attempting to get a class scheduled in August.  Due to construction on campus beginning in August we may have to limit the number of parking passes so it is important to pick up passes prior to the first day of school.

In an effort to better communicate with more of our school community, Fort Mill High School has a school website, and a Twitter account @fmhsnews where we will post important announcements, recognize students, teachers, and groups using this technology. Follow @dchrisfm for more school related tweets and personal anecdotes.  Finally, if compelled FMHS accepts tax deductible donations by connecting to this link or clicking the link on our website.  Our student handbook will be available on our website by August 11.  Please pay special attention to the electronic device, absence/tardy, and dress code policies.

Thank you for your attention to this information and all you do to make our school great.  Enjoy the rest of the summer and be assured that Fort Mill High School will continue to be a school where excellence is the standard.  I encourage you to continue to be the most important people in your child’s life.  Support them, their friends, and our school by attending athletic events, fine arts performances, and being engaged in our school culture.  Your support of our school makes us better.

We Are…Fort Mill!!!

Sincerely,

 M. Dee Christopher
